That ugly yellow thing! 84 swb
3 Attachment(s)
I picked this 84 swb on Craigslist a few weeks back with the intention of selling it to make a few bucks. When the wife got home from work that night she asked why anyone would want that "ugly yellow thing" on the trailer :lol:.
So after cleaning it up a bit and a few apoligies and promises I wont buy anymore trucks I decided to keep it for a while. Currently it has a 6.2 diesel, 700r, pw/pl, and everything appears to be stock minus good tires and a couple batteries. Here it is when I picked it up and loaded up on the trailer. |

after it stopped snowing I hit it with a quick wax job and put the 20" coys I had from my blazer project. Not sure if you can tell by the pictures but the drivers side is waxed and the passenger isnt, what a difference a little cleaning can make! The body is in pretty good shape, needs some work on the drivers door, small rust spot on quarter, and a couple dings but overall not too bad.

I hope you don't get a nosebleed driving it with it up in the air like that.

Tell you wife I love it and if it was close to me my wife and I would have had a similar chat.

A couple of weeks ago I got the front end lowered and had just enough time to finish and then it snowed again. 3" spindles and 1.5 cut coils, new tie rod ends and repacked the bearings. The grease on the spindles must have been pretty old because it had started to harden

This weekend I had enough good weather and time to get the rear mostly finished up. Still need to cut off the bump stop brackets, and get a conversion u-joint for the 12bolt but it's pretty close. The 12 bolt was just rebuilt with 4:10 gears and an Eaton posi.
Next up is getting the 6.2 out of there and the 454 in. I think it still sits 1" high but I'm going to wait until the new motor is in to see if the height changes due to weight. After some googling it sounds like the 6.2 weighs a little more than the big block. I'm going to have to notch the rear too I think, not sure if I'm just going to weld in some pipe or if I should just order a c-notch http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...o12/gears1.jpg http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...o12/gears2.jpg |

Not a really exciting update but I was able to sneak out for a half hour or so while my kid was napping to swap out the factory sway bar for a one ton bar I had laying around. Power steering must have been leaking for a while

WOW! You have really made an ugly duckling transform. Not quite a swan yet, but its getting closer.
What are you going to do with the trim? |
Re: That ugly yellow thing! 84 swb

Re: That ugly yellow thing! 84 swb
Thanks for the compliments I can't wait to start driving this truck.
Ken, the factory trim will go back on after paint, hopefully in the next few months. I was hoping to get some work done this weekend but I ended up spending 34 hrs straight in the plow truck was just fine with me. Thanks for sending the snow this way Joe! We got just over 2ft at my house http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...2-04100527.jpg |
Re: That ugly yellow thing! 84 swb

Glad I could help $$$$ You can ship me that 6.2 as thanks  Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: That ugly yellow thing! 84 swb
weather was a little better today so I snuck out and cut off the rear bump stops which lowered the rear about 1". Just need to decide if I want to go any lower? Any opinions?
