Well guys its been a while but im looking at a truck to possibly buy. I would like some opinions from the most knowledgeable 60-66 people i know. :)
Its a 62 lwb stepside small back window. 235/3-spd. converted to floor shift, newer seats. says its a DD with little to no rust. I havent seen it personally as of yet but i am going to asap. Lemme know what yall think. Im thinking ill go for it. |

Doesn't look bad from the pictures.
But seeing and evaluating it in person may be different. 1960-66 Chevy / GMC Truck Buyer's Guide By Woogeroo http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/bu...uide_60_66.htm |

It looks pretty good but the back wheel doesn't look right in the wheelwell. Did someone change out the rearend?

Im not sure if the rear has been changed, but that does look odd. Ive been trying to see the front lugs and see if its 5 or 6 lug, curious if its still drums or disc. but since it has different wheels in the front im guessing its had something done.
This Would/Will be my first experience with an IL6, never really had alot of interest in 6 bangers. Although i know enough to know i wish it was a 230 or 250 or something other than the 235... Ive always wanted a 292. John |

Yeah that rear isn't in the right spot. Definitely been redone.

Was just looking at some other lwb stepside trucks and almost all of the rear wheels look to far up, so maybe its just a lwb step bed problem.
heres a few examples... |

It's just part of its charm I believe. You have to really like a long stepper to actually buy one. But they are kinda cool I think.

If the pictures tell the truth, that looks like a very nice truck. Check for rust in the usual spots, and if the price is something you feel is reasonable I'd say go for it.

ok im defiantly getting a 60-66 but ive narrowed it down to two trucks. one being the one ive posted which is being drive daily right now. the other is a 65 lwb 3\4 ton that has a 292 and a 4 speed. it looks to have had a little more work done but is not being driven daily and is a little more expensive. It has had the handles shaved but other than that seems to be all stock. He said all it needs to be a DD is to clean out the tank and put fresh gas in, but every time i remove a tank from these trucks it seems when i put it back in it leaks.. lol btw it also looks to me like bondo in the bottoms of the bottom of the doors, but im not sure. heres a few pics. lemme know your opinions on both trucks please.
thanks, John |
Re: Possibly buying a 62 lwb step.. Opinions...
Just based off the photos, I would go after the 62, yes I know its a Long step and that's not sexy, but it looks to be all there.
The 65 is a 3/4 and some don't care for that (oddly its what I am looking for right now) Its not the year or the 3/4 that would make me shy from it, its the fact that custom work has been done to it like shaved door handles etc, just because its done does not mean its done right. Don't be in a rush What do you really want for a 60-66? is it one of these? If you have to bank more and buy what you truly want so be it, you will be much more happy in the end. |
Re: Possibly buying a 62 lwb step.. Opinions...
Well what i really want is a 64-66 SWB BBW stepside custom cab With a 6.0l and a 5 speed. Lowered but not too low. But those have gotten so rare i havent seen one for sale around here in a while. ive seen a few sbw swb 64-66 trucks but at insane prices for the shape there in. As an alternative i have always liked the lwb stepside. they just look cool (and different) to me. The only reason im not jumping all over the 62 is 1) i dont like the X frames and 2) Knee knockers arent really my thing. IDK im still thinking on it.

Well what I would do Is go to the bank and open a "truck" account, keep "spending" into that account until you find the truck you want. even if you have to travel to get it.
