Re: crossing over

plans sorta changed when it arrived (I bought it sight unseen and had it shipped by barge) The plan was to rob the TBI and front axle for my 72, then part the rest out. But I don't know yet. The body is shot, motor is tired, interior is thrashed, and all that fun stuff. But now after riding a a crew I just don't know. The 72 has been a great truck, it would be nicer with TBI, and and the front axle

I know where a good 6.2 is....
But it's in Colorado :(

Sounds weird, I'm sure it cost a pretty penny to get it to Ketchikan, eh?

Re: crossing over

something will come up.......im partial to the small blocks anyways. Diesels are a commodity now, everyone wants em. Don't get me wrong, I would gladly take on the swap (and probally will eventually) but I am just going take what comes along, likely another small block. Any diesel here fetches a good amount of coin.

One thing that was a bummer, the one ton won't fit in the garage ;)

Re: crossing over

I wonder how much it would cost to ship the 6.2 to you from Colorado?

Or I know where a complete TBI 350 is in Anchorage for cheap, dunno what that would cost to ship either...

I don't even have a garage, so your one up on me

I am going to keep the crew, I sold my 67 today and once the finishing touches are done on my 72 that will be up for sale too. Hopefully nobody will buy the 72, but I have to at least try.

*nice trucks mrhino

Re: crossing over

sourced what feels like a million parts, and a bunch of steel :metal: trying to find this guy thats got a rust free shortbed, might go that way if I can work a deal, theres also a free flatbed at work, but it needs some love. going to pressure wash the motor and underneath tomorrow to get a better idea of what i am working with. the po's horrible spray bomb is buggin, flat black on top of gloss white.
once it warms up i should have the rust addressed then I am going to bomb it with od green.
on the downside, the steering box has lots of slop, so it needs replacing, noticed the box was welded to the frame so I probally have to take the front clip off to get to the welds.
overall I am very happy, going to keep the truck and build it into something. one thing I don't want to do is make it nice, can't really explain what I mean by that but I want to keep this very utilitarian.

thanks everyone for the kind words

Re: crossing over

well 3 hours with the pressure washer sure clean things up. Body is in a lot better shape then I thought. Looks like for now a new right inner fender, battery tray, rockers, and doors. I guess I will start keeping my eyes out for a burb. Bed is ok, nothing some filler won't take care of. Took a look at the motor, going to have to do a compression check, I have NO power. Feels like the timing not advancing, so I will do the comp check and the tune up together. Can you put HEI on these TBI 350's? I have a spanking new one on the shelf.
I also saw that I have hydroboost.
Greased the front end, all very tight, so going to have to swap the gearbox. Does that stud on the top of the gearbox do anything for slop?
Got some newer treads on too!
oh yeah, the battery just about blew up! Truck wouldn't start this morning, check for fuel- good, check for spark- dull yellow, by this time the battery started smokin, smokin good. So I went to napa and bought some top post mounts to use with my boat battery and when I came back the battery swelled big time. Took it out and about 3 hours later I look at it and battery juice was everywhere!
anyways this truck rocks

Re: crossing over

The TBI's are HEI, just not the same HEI as the carbed trucks. The computer controls advance.

You can take our some slop with that screw, but you run the risk of the box randomly locking up. That adjusts the worm gear lash, IIRC...

so they are not interchangable, there is no mechanical advance?

that sucks

Correct.

If you gotta replace the box, may as well go 2wd box and crossover steering
