72 k10 flat knuckles?
4 Attachment(s)
I did some reading but I was only able to find that 73-87 had a flat knuckle for crossover steering, I posted some pictures of my 72 k10 passenger side knuckle hoping that you guys can help me identified whether this is the correct knuckle for crossover.

Re: 72 k10 flat knuckles?
That would be the one. You will need to take that knuckle off and you or a machine shop drill and tap for the steering arm.

It looks the same as my 73 axle.

Re: 72 k10 flat knuckles?
Thanks guys!
One last question, this flat knuckle is from a Dana 44 1972 1/2 ton 6 lug axle and I have a set of 1986 3/4 ton 8 lug axles from a suburban that I'm going to swap in, are the knuckles interchangable between a 1972 Dana 44 1/2 ton 6 lug axle and a 1986 10 bolt 3/4 ton 8 lug axle? Re: 72 k10 flat knuckles?
I "think" that the knuckles will work but the hubs are different. I have a corp 10 bolt and nearly everything from the axle tub and out is the same as the dana 44. The center pumpkin is different and the brake banjo bolt is metric on the newer axle. Most other parts should swap.

The knuckles are the same except that the tie rod taper on the 72 comes from the top and the 86 is from the bottom. So, use both the 72 knuckles. Everything after that will bolt on. So, you are keeping the 10 bolt front? |
Re: 72 k10 flat knuckles?
71 thru 77 have the pass side flat top knuckle. None of the 10 bolts that i ever saw had the pass side flat top. Pre 71 have a flat top too, but are drum brakes and the knuckle is different. Watch which way the TRE tapper is machined into the knuckle. Some are from the top, some are from the bottom.
Get your machinist to mill the top flat and drill and tap the mirror image of the pattern thats in the driver side. |
