Truck Tunes - New Stereo
 

I finally sprang for some new tunes. I got my old radio from a friend back in high school and its been in there for 28 years, along with the RadioShack speakers that I mounted on the kick boards. That thing still worked, just made noise so lately I never turned it on.

I didn't want to cut the dash but since my older brother hacked it long ago, I cut it out for the DIN. Found a piece of aluminum at ACE hardware in the hobby section since the holes still showed around the face plate. Gonna miss that plywood faceplate.

I wasn't going to cut my doors for speakers so I found some that fit under the seat.

Total cost for everything was $140. Sounds pretty decent and loud enough to give me (additional) hearing damage. Looks a little out of place in my old truck, though.

whered you get those speakers? how do they sound? amp? no amp?

I found the speakers on-line. Buy.com had them for $59. They are only 20 watt rms, the receiver is 22 watt continuous per channel, so no amp.

They actually sound pretty darn good for being under the seat. It gives them more base but does muffle the mid and high range a bit. They are a lot louder than I was expecting.

I haven't figured out why the stereo came with a remote?

Seems to be that the general public is LAZY so eeeeeeverything has a remote now days lol! I've got a heating and cooling business and all the window units come with a remote, stereos for vehicles and homes, hell even fans have em! Can't say much though...put two outdoor light/fans in the roof of my deck and they both have remotes that control the lights and all the speeds on the fan so I guess I'm just as guilty! The stereo sure looks good though!

Remote control for the stereo is a must have :metal:

The buttons and controls on the radio faceplate are small and too close together. Hard to make selections with fat fingers while you're bouncing down the road at 70mph. Ain't like the old 2 large round knobs.

I used to think, why do I need a remote? Once you get used to the layout, it becomes an extension of your right hand. No looking over. Volume up & down, change the station, skip the track, all becomes safe and easier.

Almost makes me miss the old in-dash Pioneer 8-track :lol:

I think box speakers under the seat are the hot lick. I've been doing it since the Pioneer Supertuner days. I'd leave extra wire so I could set the speakers outside and listen while working w/o leaving the doors open.
In this modern age of remote controlled everything researchers have discovered peoples arms have gotten shorter from never reaching for anything and most people can't reach the middle of the dash any more. You didn't know that?

These are the TS-X200. They have 4" woofers so they fit under.

I have stereo controls on my steering wheel in my other car and I use them all the time so I guess this could be a good thing, too. I better start practicing.

That's punny cause I totally had it mapped out to paint it black, but like you said....

I love Pioneer Supertuners even without the remotes. I was figuring since my arms are so short now, I would just use my foot.

A true story: When I was a young dude, I bet my friend that I could drive and shift this 3-on-the-tree with my right foot and not need my hand. I took my shoe and sock off and went through all the gears including downshifting. Nowadays, I have trouble just taking my shoe and sock off...
