Sounds good, the only thing to watch out for is that the spring pad width for Dodge is 1/2" wider than Chevy.

Re: dodge dana 44 on a c30?

so could i just weld on new spring perches 1/2" closer in? and the steering will still work with stock 2wd steering box?

Re: dodge dana 44 on a c30?

I'm confused. Is the Dana 44 a front axle? Do you have a C30 or a K30? If it's a C30,is it converted to 4wd? If it's converted to 4wd,do you have crossover steering? Is that why you have a 2wd steering box? Because a 2wd steering box won't even work in a stock 4wd. As far as a Dodge axle into a GM goes, the spring pads need to be moved inward. If you are in the process of converting a 2wd into a 4wd you could probably set it up so the springs are spaced for the Dodge axle,if it's all custom anyway.

The dodge D250 and D350 series were 2wd.
The dodge W250 and W350 series were 4wd.

all you need would be 1/4" on a side:mm: The spring perches on the differential side are machined into the housing. so If it were mine I would make some plates to weld on top of the existing perches with the hole spacing that you want.

Yeah you can cut the spring perches off and weld new ones on in the right place. But if you want a big lift or big tires i would look for a dana 60.

Ok,the leave the axle alone and just mount the spring hangers where they need to be. No sense in altering the axle when you have to fab/install spring hangers anyway. And,I know what you mean about money.

Just mount the axle up. The half inch difference doesn't not effect anything. I know dieselwrencher has done this with a dodge d60 and it is fine. I have also read about other people that did this as well. It will bolt right in.

I forgot you are converting the truck to 4x4 If your going to build the mounts then work in the half inch. But if you just steal parts off a 4x4 to convert it then don't worry about the half inch.

Re: dodge dana 44 on a c30?

so it should be fine?

Re: dodge dana 44 on a c30?

If you use stock 4x4 brackets it will be fine. If you build your own brackets then you might as well add in that half inch.

If you use factory 4x4 setup most guys including myself don't worry about the extra 1/2". We simply bolt one side up and then put a port-a-power or bottle jack between the springs and spread them until the center pin on the other side drops into the pad. Then tighten down the U bolts and release the pressure from the jack. This is the redneck way to use a Dodge front axle in a Chevy.

Yes you can everything will swap over.

Re: dodge dana 44 on a c30?

Yeah, that'll work and much better. When spreading GM springs to fit a Dodge axle you can only "hope" the axle sits centered.

Re: dodge dana 44 on a c30?
