cab removal? need to know how to pull my 69 without pulling the frontend
found a local guy parting out a 69 longbed then sending it to the crusher, from what I read I'm guessing its an ac cab, I want it lol so I want to know after I pull the cowl off and the cab bolts out can I lift it and leave the frontend?

hmmm, interesting concept! from what I've gathered from taking my truck apart is that you 'should' be able to do what you want to do...there are 4(?) bolts per side that hold the fenders into place, and 4(?) bolts that hold the inner fenders onto the firewall. seems if you take care of all those bolts, and you dont have any throttle, clutch, steering, or fuel system left in it, is 'should' go.

Re: cab removal? need to know how to pull my 69 without pulling the frontend
I recently bought a cab from a junkyard and did this exact method. I unbolted everything and we put a big tow strap around the roof. Then just pulled it straight up with a loader.
The only thing is the fenders scratched the paint on the side of the cowl. If that's a problem, just have a way of spreading them apart somehow, possibly a person on each side holding them outward. But in short, it can be done. :) |

Why not pull the front end and get it out of the way? It will make pulling the cab much easier. If you don't care about the fenders (hopefully they are trash anyway?), cut them with a sawzall.

well like the majority of america after my rent and bills....what money? lol so i had the idea of trading cab for cab since the man is interested in the scrap value and i was in a bit of a hurry since he wants to haul it away on the 20th, talked to him today, gonna go look at it and talk some kind of deal......maybe some barter for my mechanic services

Re: cab removal? need to know how to pull my 69 without pulling the frontend
OK, I understand now. Not the front end on the parts truck, you want to leave your front end in place.
If it were me, I'd figure what the weight and/or value of a scrap cab is and offer him some scrap to replace it. A radiator or a/c condensor may be worth what a cab is for scrap for instance. Then you can do the swap at your leisure and scrap the old cab when you are done. In my experience, you will need or forget 1 little thing that will make the whole deal no good $ wise. Best to keep what you have until you KNOW that you don't need anything else IMHO. |

my thoughts exactly, i have some exhaust manifolds, radiators, condensors layin around and my old cab even a powerglide for acutual trade value and not just scrap value

Re: cab removal? need to know how to pull my 69 without pulling the frontend
If you pull the bolts out that fasten the fenders to the cab, there will be nothing to hold the dog house up in place. You then risk tweaking the fenders.

Re: cab removal? need to know how to pull my 69 without pulling the frontend
only the passenger fender remain on the frontend, rest is laying in the bed, looks like the boys have enough tools and equiptment to pull the cab and sit it on a trailer but its not worth $500 to me, still want it bad and makes me mad that its gonna get crushed in a week

If there's rust but it's a complete cab, maybe $200. It's probably only worth $40 in scrap weight lol

Re: cab removal? need to know how to pull my 69 without pulling the frontend
I'm retired and have a '67 that needs cab support channels. I bought the channels, inner/outer rockers and cab supports but have no clue where to begin to replace them. Any videos or help would be greatly appreciated. I'd post pictures if I knew how...Thanks,
