GMC V6 rare valve covers?

All you V6 fans check out this video and look what is stamped in the valve covers! I have never seen a set of these. I wonder how rare they are? Normally it always just says GMC.

Info from the Jolly website. Pete Chronis, one of the acknowledged GMC experts on that site, had this reply below. Also here are a couple of 1974 GMC 379's with the "mark"; last year of Official production for all V-6's. This is a rare engine as well. (73-74)

> In 1972 GMC V6 valve covers had "V6" stamped on them rather
than "GMC" that had something to do with all GM engines being corporate
engines rather than being individual to each division. By 1973 the GMC
V6 line of engines was incorporated to Chivy's medium duty trucks which
were assembled in GMC's Pontiac Michigan Plant, nothing but GMC trucks
rebadged as Chivy's and that also was true for bigger trucks 7500-9500
series in preceding years. Also in 1972 Oldsmobile losts their logo on
it's V8's valve covers, probably the GMC 637 V8 as well in it's last
year of production.

What about plaid valve covers on a v-6? I had a pair that were painted with a plaid design. I understood they were put on after a recall.

Those are rare as well. Supposedly a 1963 only thing. I've heard both that they were affixed to engines that had been corrected from an issue during production and I have also heard they were made to promote GMC's "thriftyness".

I was wondering how many cylinders it had but those covers say it all. I'm being sarcastic, it just tickles me to see that for some reason. Points for being different though.

As noted by Pete Chronis above, I would imagine the change was due to the lawsuit that resulted when GM got caught putting Chevrolet engines in Oldsmobile’s. GM lost a class action law suit over the practice. After that all GM engines I’m aware of got painted “corporate blue” and lost their brand identification.

The coating on the valve covers was a hard type of placis and heat shrinked onto the cover, you can remove them but it takes some effort.
