whats the offcial color for 73-80 GMC emblems?
 

I need to restore a few of my GMC emblems etc on my 76. Does anyone sell/make the correct paint for this.....is it called paprika red ?

The noun name for the official color that I have heard used is "Ruby Red".

Update: according to the GMC Marketing lady the color name is "Rocket Red", code WA 295X.

ya Im not sure rocket red is correct for the old trucks, I swear its paprika or cayenne (sp) something like that

She asked if I meant GMT900 or K2xx, and I told her specifically C/K/R/V '73-87. That didn't change her response.

So what's "Rocket Red" look like, anyway? Different than "Apple Red" or "Victory Red"? ;) The noun names are totally made up and don't mean anything. That's why you always have to go by the WA number.

Example:
We are building cars this week with an "Urban" interior color. I didn't know what that meant until we built two cars: looks "brown" to me.

I understand what your saying and I greatly appreciate your help and taking the time to call/reply here etc. But is that the emblem color or the body paint color?....Im talking about the emblem.

Emblems specifically.

Looks pretty "orange" there, doesn't it.

But - back to my original point - you can't tell by the name. Recall that "Carousel Red" on a Pontiac was "Hugger Orange" on a Chevy.

I recommend you follow up on that WA number and see what it looks like.

Man they want to charge anywhere for 18-40 bucks too mix it the smallest i can get mixed is one pint. alot of paint just for a few emblems.

some body shops will mix a small touch up bottle for you if you act like you want the whole truck painted and want to see a sample. a little dishonest but free. i brought a code to a place one time and they gave me a bottle to see if it was the right color, since at the time the car wasnt running to bring up there. they also gave me an estimate to paint the whole car also. but i actually wanted them to paint it, until i heard the price...

My interpretaion was...he took a NOS emblem in and matched the color to it.

I saw a place online that makes touch up bottles if you give them the code, cant find the site now

I used a Model Master Orange that I picked up at Hobby Lobby for a couple bucks, matched really well.

Well - Marketing has since changed the name to "Pebble Beige" - so that got that goin' for em.

In other news: "Silver Topaz"? That'd be blue....
