Loose BBC HEI Distributor Weights?
The weights on my distributor are loose, I know they need a little play to move but they're loose up and down also! One person says that's normal and another says it's not so which is it?

Floppy weights. Just means that the advance mechanism is worn
This doesn't mean you should replace it with the mr gasket advance kit they are CRAP Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Loose BBC HEI Distributor Weights?
yea i wouldnt replace them unless they are frozen in place(with rust). the weights on my 77 froze up and it ran like crud, we rebuilt it with the mr. gaskit kit and it runs better, but i wouldnt worry about it if the truck runs fine now

Re: Loose BBC HEI Distributor Weights?
No it doesn't run fine, it always seems like it's running on 7 cylinders. I've adjusted the valves and Quadrajet and replaced all the usual suspects, (wires, plugs, cap, rotor, all filters), so when I noticed the weights I thought maybe they were the culprit.

Re: Loose BBC HEI Distributor Weights?
I agree the MR gasket weights are crap. one of those actually bent from centrifugal force and my engine never goes over 3800RPM, ever.
Plus my dist had some play in the shaft so I just bought this new distributor. The guy was having a price war at the time so I got mine for $35 shipping and all. I bought this exact distributor for my truck. Works like a charm, except the clear cap that came on mine was crap so i switched to an accel cap and its worked great for a year now. It looks real nice and feels good in your hands. This one has a black cap so it may not have the problem I had with the clear one. I'd def buy another one if I needed one. This ebay seller is EXCELLENT. Don't know em personally but have bought enough from them to recommend them to anyone. Great on the phone too. TSP Distributor |
