air bags and front shocks

i'm in the process of adding bags to my 81 gmc 1/2 ton. what's a good front shock to run, or how would i determine what shock to buy? is there any shock relocating brackets out there for the 73-87 vehicles, and could that be used for stock shocks? thanks in advance for the help.:smoke:

Re: air bags and front shocks

What kind of shock you to use depends on your budget and what you will use the vehicle for. If it is a daily driver KYB gas-a-just shocks will be just fine, but if you plan on more spirited driving or Autocross you want to look at Doetch Nitro or Bilstien inertia valves. Porterbuilt makes a relocation kit that moves the upper shock mounting point out and I think forward, it uses KYB shocks. Take a read through the "make it handle" thread and it will help you understand shocks and valving so when you go to buy a shock you will know what questions to ask the distributor.

I have never seen that re-locator before. I have only seen the Porterbuilt mount for the stage 1 drop kit and the Hotchkis re-locator.

POL once sold a relocator that bolted to the top of the frame rail check w/them.

73-87's have a little more meat (height) @ the rail in that area so a aftermarket upper shock mount can be relocated higher up on the rail (just above where the OE stud goes). I did this on my 74 so I could use stock length replacement shocks w/a 3" spindle/1-coil cut front drop.

POL1963-72 CHEVY/GMC/C10/C20, FRONT SHOCK MOUNT KIT (FSMK6372)
will this work on my 81 or do need to ask them if they make one for 73-87

63-87's use the same front shock (same suspension).
