Re: oil leak?
The fuel pump gasket to the block could be leaking, or maybe the timing cover. If it was the pan gasket I would think it would be all over the bottom, not up around the fuel pump. Just an idea. If it's dropping down on the exhaust it could just be valve cover gaskets.

How hard is it to change the timing cover gasket

Re: oil leak?
IMO, timing cover is more of a pain than the oil pan, in fact, if I were going that deep, then I'd do the oil pan also.
Personally I'd look closely at the fuel pump to block gasket. There is a plate that goes to the block and then the fuel pump. |
Re: oil leak?
IIRC there is a bolt hole/boss on the front of the block that is right in line with the fuel pump push rod. On some blocks, that hole goes all the way thru to the push rod and can leak oil. My friend had that problem just after he built a 383. Once he put a bolt in there, no more leaking.

Re: oil leak?
it sound like the the gasket for the fuel pump. there are two gasket. and not the timing cover if it was th timing cover it will run down the front and go under not to the fule pump area. The pump should only take like 30 min it u know the little trik to keep the push rod up in the motor. There is a bolt on the front of the motor that plugs a hole its right by the fule pump pull it out and put on in that is a little longer and it will hold the rod in place when u are done put the old one back in. and you are done.

Re: oil leak?
the bolt it on the front of the block on the ame side as the pump right next to the pump. its not hard to find. if u look at the front of the block its right above the oil pan and next to the fuel pump. its not hard to find

Without a picture it's hard to tell but I'd start by checking the valve cover gasket above the fuel pump. Wipe the area above the pump with a rag and see if it's oily. Gravity works. |
Re: oil leak?
Well its not leaking oil but now you can check out the new thread were to buy dynamite
