Three On The Tree Question
This is my first vintage C10 so please bear with me. Someone over the years, lost the pin that goes in the shift lever on the column and just stuck a screw in there. I will replace the pin but am wondering why I can just move the shifter up and down without pulling back on it and it just feels sloppy to me. I haven't driven the truck yet, as I'm still getting her road worthy but this is on my mind. Do I need to "rebuild" the column? Will replacing the pin put more pressure on everthing and get me back where I need to be. Thank you for any info.

Re: Three On The Tree Question
You should be able to move it up and down without pulling the handle towards you....this would be 2nd and 3rd gears. Pulling the shift lever back and up or down (with it pulled in) will put you in reverse or 1st. As far as the pin is concerned I've seen spring pins to bolts for the lever pin... Maybe someone can chime in if I'm missing the point...but what you described seems normal.

It should be a roll pin.

Re: Three On The Tree Question
Thanx guys. I will replace the pin and go from there. I was just concerned that the prev owner swapped columns and didn't hook this thing up correctly. I pulled the rubber flooring out and found a piece of tin sheeting over the trans hump. Not sure what's going on there.
