How to identify a front end?

Hey Folks...

I'm the proud owner of a '72 CST Blazer. Unfortunately, the previous owner put 3/4 ton axles on it.

I hoping this doesn't sound like too stupid a question but how can I identify exactly what make the axles are? What maker, what model, and if possible, what year?

I'm currently taking the front axle apart in order to change everything from the ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearings etc.

I've looked at the differential housing and can see no obvious identifying marks. About all I can answer when asked is that it has 8 lugs and the differential cover has 10 bolts.

Finally, just exactly what do I need to know to get new parts other than it's a Chevy 3/4 ton axle?

Thanks in advance everyone!
Chris
