4x4 engine cross member question
 

i m changing a 2wd frame over to 4wd. and i have took all the two wheel drive stuff off. was gonna see if someone could tell me where i need to mount this 4wd cross member ? i know i have got to drill a few holes but would like to know where exactly it needs to be. thanks for any help

What do you need measured? And from what location? I've got a '78 K20 frame I just cut the engine crossmember out. Do you need the front sway bar crossmember holes as well?

this is on a 68 frame. the frame has about three different holes and didnt know if it was the ones all the way forward or to the back.

I happen to have a SWB Factory 4X4 Frame stripped down waiting for Sand Blasting right now. I just removed anything that is not rivited to my frame and I am not completely sure which brackets your asking about but here are some measurements of what I think your asking for.

One is the measurement from the center of the body mount rivit shown in the picture to the holes for the crossmember for the tranny.

The other is for the rear cross member from the same body mount but I hooked the body mount hole with the end of my tape for this measurement.

Hope this helps but if not post a pic of the cross member your wondering about.

I guess thats why you have the word "Engine" in your title? LOL I apologize I was tired last night from tearing apart a 71 front clip and cab.

dbash's photos are good.
I was going to say that you should have three holes per side. For a factory engine location you should be installing on the rear two holes on each side.

ok i was just gonna make sure on here. cause right now its a bare frame and i m gonna run a big block and didnt want any cab /motor problems later.

i m building a 72 myself . cant find a short bed frame so i guess i m gonna make one lol.

They are getting hard to find and they are spendy when you do find one. I paid top dollar for my frame from a member on here but its the only way to get one these days.

The 69 truck I am tearing down is a 2wd converted to a 4X4 but its not a very good conversion and I am happy to be replacing it with a factory one.

That being said I am considering doing the exact same thing your doing to that frame once I have it stripped either to sell or to build another 4X4 since their becoming so rare.

fine is going slow. we just had a baby girl in oct. and she comes first. but i m slowly getting it ready.
