body mounts 54 chevy truck
I having a problem with setting my cab on the frame. The front bolts line up but the back is one bolt hole off on each side.Question, should there be a rubber pad for the back mount? the kit only came with rubber mount for the front. Its might work if i can lift the back up higher and the bolt holes will line up.Dont know if this would tilt the body up in the back.any suggestions?

Re: body mounts 54 chevy truck
Are you using the shackles for the rear?

Re: body mounts 54 chevy truck
yep i replaced the bushings.Everything lines up from side to side but am a good inch off from the holes to line up.sense the kit only came with rubber pad for the front and not the back i figured it didnt come with one in the first place, but you would think you need some kind of rubber mount/pad on all four corners. The front ones line up perfect.Kind of weird

Re: body mounts 54 chevy truck
Can you jack up the rear of the cab, and see it that will line up the shackles with the 2 holes in the floor on each side

Re: body mounts 54 chevy truck
I think the problem with that is i installed a recess fire wall and the 350 has a hei distributor and it is up against the firewall.I might be able to jack it up and put a level on it to make sure the gap is even between the cab and bed.I might have to redrill holes in the frame and lower the shackles.Would you put a rubber pad there?

Re: body mounts 54 chevy truck
I think it would be wise to get those shackles to fit in the orginal location on the frame and cab floor.
You will find later when you go to align the hood fenders how important this stock location for these mounts will be. Remove the HEI and see if you can get the rear of the cab to fit the shackles. You may be causing yourself more trouble if you do not correct this at this stage of the build.. There is a lot of adjustment in those rear shackles and may even need a shim or two between the floor and shackle to align the front of the hood. |
Re: body mounts 54 chevy truck
ok let me do some thinking here.If i jack the rear up it will bring in the shackle inward lining up the holes. That is what i was thinking about the rubber pads rising up the rear. This is a customer project and i got it when the cab was off and it set for 8 years so i dont know if pads even came on the rear of the cab. This should be fun aligning up the hood inner and outer fenders grill. That my next step then start wiring, steering wheel ect.
