shortening lwb frame w cab on frame
 

i am starting to get ready to cut my lwb frame to make it a swb. has anyone cut their frame with the cab still on or with the cab at least lifted off the frame several inches for room? any issues?

I would lift it up or take it off to give me more room to weld on the frame.

sorry. 68 c20 that i am converting to a c10 swb. have 84 suspension and rear end. all sandblasted and painted ready for install after i cut frame

I just finished mine and I left the cab on due to no room to set it off. I took the cab mount bolts out, jacked up the cab (very slowly and carefully with a block protecting the cab. After I had the cab high enough I slid a 2x4 between the cab and frame for support. After that I welded on supports in front and behind the splice area. You are working under alot of weight, never hurts to be safe. I would NEVER do this under just jack stands. Check my thread in my signature for more details. I just reviewed all the great information posted by all the guys on this site and applied it to my project. It's working great so far! Good luck and please take the time to be safe!
