my project 65
Newbe from Washington state here. I found this 65 a couple weeks ago, $600, couldn't pass it up. I've been looking for just the right project truck for a while now. I wanted a 60-66 longbed, 1/2 ton, fleetside, V-8, auto and original paint. Wasn't asking for much was I? I found this one about 5 miles from my house. It's been sitting for 12 years. Little bit of rust in the lower part of the fenders and left rocker, but that's it. It had a worn out 283 that was pretty much running oil out the left side exhaust, and a leaky powerglide. I installed a '66 327 that I've had for a while just waiting to find something to put it in, and a 350 trans. Plans are to lower it a bit(springs are on there way) clean it up, keep the patina for now. Find some rally wheels for it and drive it. I own a tranmission repair shop and started business in 1966, so I am going to have our logo painted on the side and try to make it look like it was my shop truck since we opened shop in '66. I will keep pics coming as I go along.

Welcome to the forum :D
Looks like you found a decent truck to build.....not that easy to find here in the Northwest. |
Re: my project 65
You know, that truck aint so far from bein' a real nice ride.
How bout some more pictures ...specially that interior.. I'm thinkin that's a fairly low miler. Floor mats, seat and pedals look pristine.. Welcome to the group. |
Re: my project 65

Rodger on the apples....
We sure do build some good beer....... Maybe we could meet half way. |
Re: my project 65
It is a fairly straight truck. Belonged to the person I bopght it from granpa, guess it was his toy. Got it lowered and been cleaning up the inside. I will post some pics later. I am always willing to trade Washington apples for Oregon beer.

Re: my project 65
Outstanding. Nice truck, nice story and I love the seat cover. Looks very deluxe 1950’s with the two tone pattern. And welcome to the forum!

Re: my project 65
Was wondering what shock I can use on the front end. I lowered it with some 3" drop springs. I know there are places that sell them, but I was wondering if anybody found some others that would work from another type car/truck, so I could just go to my local parts strore and get some.

Re: my project 65
Got my lowering springs installed, might go a little lower on the front once I get different wheels and tires on. Some PO cut out the ashtray area to make room for an 8 track so I decided to make me an ashtray delete panel. Cut up a couple old ashtrays and welded them back together the right size. It is not finished yet, but you get the idea. The seat cleaned up pretty nice.
