Long box to short box

:new: :gmc2: I am just starting this project, the truck was my Dad's 1970 GMC 2500 long box, Bought new. I am taking it all the way down, Bringing it back up as a short box step side, I have a Cummins 4bt and T5 trans, 3.08 10 bolt diff. If I did my math right and the 4 banger has the torgue I should see good economy w/o sacrificing road speed. Couple questioned to you seasoned vets, any hints to a good frame chop to and suggestions on suspension options?

First off :welcoem: to the board from Iowa...

There is a lot of different information in the FAQ forum. Scroll down to the bottom of this page and you will see the "Forum Jump" box. Click on the little down arrow on the right side of the box and scroll down to "FAQ Truck Tech". On that page go down to "Thread/Thread Starter: FAQ Index Thread". When you get into that scroll through the different sections and you will find answers to questions you haven't even thought of yet....;)

I could have just posted a direct link but there is a lot of good info in the FAQ section and now the people that read this thread will know how to get to it. Thanks to Krue for indexing the FAQ's

I shortened a frame using the instructions in the "Brakes and Suspension related FAQ's" section and it worked out great. I think there are also threads on installing air bags and static drops.

You might want to check out the "Projects and builds" forum for some good info too.

I would just add to look around and consider boxing the frame. With the torque you'll have it may need the strength.

Thanks for the thought PanelDeland, this little engine is rated @ 105 BHP & 265 ft lbs torque. I am going for unique and fuel economy, not monster truck. That being said, I was planning to glove the frame app 2' centered on a 45* cut and weld.

mine was chopped to a SWB. Was a real PITA for me, when i found the weld marks. lol
Good luck on your build. Like the cumming's idea.
