Proper way to remove door mouldings?
I disassembled and removed my door(s) yesterday, but I'm not sure how to get the upper chrome molding off. There's a screw at the front and a nut at the back, but the rest is largely inaccessible (the studs push into an expanding retainer).
I assume there's either a special way to slide or rotate the trim or a special tool involved, but don't want to wreck my trim trying to figure it out. I searched the forums but didn't find any good description (perhaps searching for the wrong terms). So, can someone tell me how to safely get it off? Thanks! |
Re: Proper way to remove door mouldings?
Take the door panels off roll the windows up or emove them and make sure there is not an extra trim retainer nut on the inside, sometimes poeple have added them for support, usually they are held on with adheisive tape retainers on the middle of the door and you can slide a long putty knife along the molding to find its location and then get the blade behind the retainer and gently lift it away from the body.

Being a 69 or 70, you will have to get to the backside and squeeze the tabs together from inside the door. 71-72 had the adhesive clips where you would use the putty knife.
