removing scratch marks from wet sanding
 

I recently had my auto painted and it turned out good but for a few orange peel places. I ended up wet sanding 1000, 1500, 2000 grit and polished some norton polish. I used a buffing pad with the polish but now I have swirl marks that are only noticeable during bright sunlight. What would you guys suggest to get these swirls out. Thanks

A foam pad. And without being sarcastic, swirl remover! Use plenty of material, to keep from drying out and putting finer scratches in the surface. Fresh fiber towels and spray detailer to clean and check your process.

Will turn out best if you do it by hand and don't use a electric buffer.

I tried it with elec buffer, maybe I was going to fast or not using enough material. I will go back over and use the advice I got. The swirl remover I used was System 51 and Zymol on different spots so it was probably me.

I use a white foam pad with a spritz of water on the pad then most the panel and put cut compound in then buff clean...minor swirl Marks! Then switch to a blue foam pad and use 3m's blue polish compound and must panel and hit it with mid speed minor pressure not removing all the meterial just basically grinding it in with the buffer! Then terry cloth in the opposite direction I buffed in and boom no swirl marks even on black!

I would start all over, I only use 3M branded products. Buy a variable speed polisher with the hook & loop style pad as it makes changing pads that much faster. I would wash the whole thing with Dawn dishwashing soap to get rid of any other product left behind. I would then use 3M Super Duty Rubbing compound and go over everything taking your time and keeping the speed around 750 rpm or better yet read the directions on the bottle. Wash it again to keep from cross contaminating the compounds and then use the swirl mark remover withe the right foam pad. It comes in either light or dark depending on your paint to minimize splatter that isn't found. Wash it a third time and use the final finish with its pad. I would get an apron to keep you cleaner and only do it in a ventilated area in the shade. Once your all done wash it one more time and blow it dry with air and a super shami to get the rest. If its been drying more than 60-90 days [depending on temps] you can wax it but not before the 60-90 days has come and gone.

Sure some will say you can skip the last step and the washing but for a super clean finish its worth taking your time. Its also why I charge at least $500 to do it for people.
