What kind of black paint on...

Hello,
I am getting ready to do a restoration. I was wondering if everything that is black gets the same paint and primer. Inner fenders? Motor brackets? Aframes?
Radiator support? Radiator? Condenser? Frame? What kind of paint and or primer should I use?
I want this truck to look very original.
Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Semi-gloss (approx 60% gloss) black.

Radiator is gloss and is a special pant just for radiators.

Re: What kind of black paint on...

So with exception to the radiator the frame, inner fenders, pretty much everything that is black on the truck is a Semi-gloss black. Will the air conditioner condenser need special paint?
Is the black that highlights the grill and moldings also semigloss? Is a special primer or paint needed on the aluminum?
How about the underside of the cab, bed, and inner fenders?
Is it wise to put an under coating on the underside of the cab, bed and inner fenders?
Are all semigloss black paints created equally? Is this available at home depot or autozone in rattle cans or do I need to visit an auto paint supply house?
How much semigloss to paint everything on the truck?
Should I use epoxy primer? Is the primer I use on the frame and aforementioned components going to be the same primer I use on the sheet metal?
Is there a particular brand or type of epoxy primer that is best to use?
Thank you in advance for your input!

Re: What kind of black paint on...

Check out my build thread. I tried to use the most correct colors I could. I used the most durable but conveinant paint for the part I was working on.

Floor of cab = Red Oxide primer from Factory (I used Red Oxide PPG DP Epoxy)

Inner Fenders, Rad Support , and under hood are a very satin black
(I used eastwoods underhood 2 part urethane)

Motor (Eastwood 2 part epoxy-this is some durable slick stuff!)

All the mounts, and alt supports and what not I blasted and used VHT Epoxy Satin Black from a spray can.) This stuff is really good, I spilled brake fluid on some of these parts and it didnt even hurt it.)

I used the same for the headlight bezels (They are steel) but it should have been flatter than that. I would have used the underhood satin from the fenders for that as well.

The Frame I also used an epoxy PPG primer. Alot of these paints are designed to work without primer, like the engine epoxy and underhood urethane from eastwood. Jast sand with 400 and spray. But for the durability anything you may primer under the hood or what not I went with epoxy primer.

Not all semi gloss or even satins are sreated equal. The VHT stuff I used from a spray can has more of a sheen and the underhood black from eastwood was almost flat (But very correct looking.)

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I will check out your build thread. I just posted a build thread myself. Take a look.
Thanks

Re: What kind of black paint on...

I used black implement paint that I got from Tractor Supply, and added a hardener to it for the chassis, after sand-blasting. The other suspension components were sandblasted and painted with a low-gloss black, by the guy who also blasted them. Ditto for the rear end.

By the way, it's a whole lot easier to spray them, than to brush 'em....just in case you wondered.

As for the radiator and condensor....the wrong paint will insulate them and make heat transfer much more difficult.

I've always used one of these three:

1) Eastwood Underhood Black - correct sheen, nice finish, but really thin lacquer. No idea how durable it is, but it looks very nice.
2) PPG 2060 low-gloss clear coat overtop your choice of black base coat
3) Powder coating - I just picked a "low gloss" color that looked close, I'm happy with it

Below is my last batch of #3

x2 on the red primer. My original 170 cab was red primer behind the dash, under the floor under the coating.

the floor of my 71 is body color. One in my 68 GTO was red oxide.

Could someone recommend an epoxy primer that I could use pretty much everywhere? Does this seem like a good chassis paint? http://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-2k-...sis-black.html
Do you think this Chassis paint would also work on the A-frames, inner fenders, radiator support and suspension parts? How much do you think it would take?
