LS 5.3 with carb
I searched before Im asking. Didnt find what I needed. My question is, has anyone done the LS swap with a carb and a turbo 400 trans? Im planning on pulling my 350 out for a rebuild but I have the chance to get a 40k mile 5.3, already have the carb and trans. What Im looking for is any info on this set ups performance and maybe info on trans swap. Truck is 73 c10 shortbed. Thanks, Matt

Re: LS 5.3 with carb
I believe there needs to be a spacer on the flywheel due to the fact the crank hub on back is flush with the block and .400 shorter than a gen 1 sbc. As for the carb. Edelbrock sells a intake with a msd controller and carb style intake.
By all means if you already have the th400 stay with it for budget but the amount it will take to go carbed will be about the same as a computer setup minus cold starts and tuning and lower efficiency (unless your a carbaholic super tuning wizard) if your trying to go for the old school look with new school tech then I can see why carb is your plan. Re: LS 5.3 with carb
Thanks, the 5.3 is just a long block without fuel injection, as far as I know. But I do like the carb set up the way it looks, etc. Ill check it out tomorrow.

Re: LS 5.3 with carb
Go to www.jegs.com for a kit. You'll find an intake and ignition control module. You can run it with a distributor (a lot of work) or individual coil packs (best option)
http://www.jegs.com/c/Intake-Manifol...11939/10002/-1 Here is the article for both distributor and coil pack conversions. http://www.aera.org/ep/downloads/ep1...2010_10-19.pdf It's easier than you think. |
Re: LS 5.3 with carb
The distributor kit i have seen said it only works on a aluminum block and i think the 5.3 is a iron block.

Re: LS 5.3 with carb
Tha edelbrock set up looks much cleaner...a dizzy hanging off tha front of a LS looks goofy to me..

Re: LS 5.3 with carb
I seen holley makes coil covers that make it look like a big block.

Re: LS 5.3 with carb
Well I looked up the intake and ignition combo and found out it is a little pricey. I think Im going to just stick with my sbc for now. After wheels and paint then Ill think about the LS swap. Thaks for the replies and help.
