Question About 1967-75 Step Van/Value Van

I don't know exactly which sub-forum this post would go to.

But, my question is this: does anyone remember the badges of the 1967-75 Chevy Step Van (P10,20,30) and the 1968-75 GMC Value Van (P1500,2500,3500)?

For the '67-'75 Step Vans, the front fender badge was the same as for the '67-'68 pickup trucks, with the Chevy bowtie logo with the series rating below it. On the Step Vans, from '67-'68 the inlay was painted red like the pickup version of the bow tie. Then in 1969, the inlay was painted blue, and in 1973, the inlay became a metallic yellowish gold.

And as to the '68-'75 GMC Value Vans, the front fender badge was, of course, similar to the '68-'72 pickups, which unlike the Chevy badges, did not change.

It was in 1976 that the Step Van and Value Van used a version of the 1975-80 front fender badging seen on the pickups of the period (Step Van 10/20/30, Value Van 15/25/35). I know the front cover of the 1976 Chevy Step Van brochure confirms this.

Yes,I remember the bowtie badges. The post-72 ones were gold and N.O.S. ones some to still come up in N.O.S. since they are the most recent,I guess. I have my ye on a pretty decent P10 at the moment. It's newer with the StepVan badge on the fender and 73-up front bumper. I doubt I'll be able to come up with the money before it's gone.

Also, I wanted to point out that the H/J-series heavy-duty trucks (GMC used this design for its school bus chassis through the 1969 model year) also went through this transition, as did the B-series school bus chassis (which used the '67 cowl through 12/83).

What I mean is that the H/J series conventionals, when originally introduced in 1966, had a red Chevy bow tie logo on the grille (something the 1967-68 light to medium trucks also had), for 1969 it became blue and then from 1973 until being replaced by the Bruin for 1978, it was gold.

Similarly, the B-series school bus chassis had a red bow tie on its hood above the grille for the years 1967-68, then switched to a blue bow tie (along with the other medium C/M-series) for '69, and then for the years 1973 to early 1984, the bow tie logo sported a gold inlay.

The G-series vans (Chevy Van/Sport Van/Beauville), introduced in the spring of 1970 as 1971 models, had a blue bow tie logo on the front grille at first, for 1973 it was painted gold to match the C/K-line of light trucks. This grille lasted through the 1977 model year, for 1978-82 it adopted the light trucks' front end.

Very interesting stuff. Like Tim said in another post it seems like you may be our resident expert in this area. I for one would like to here more about these units, maybe post up some pics along with your info.
