Setting the engine back
I got a 69 C/10 with small block on front mounting positions(stock) and manaul trans. How hard will it be to set the engine back and can I move the stock bellhousing mountsback also?

are you wanting to move a V8 back into the 6 cyls holes? it takes different motor mounts and also puts your HEI V8 dist on the firewall

I haven't done it yet, but I am thinking of moving the 350 that was on my 69 back about halfways between the front position and rear position. IIRC it will move it back about 3/4 inch. Basically what I intend to do is redrill the mounting holes for the tower. Yes, you will have to move the rear tranmission cross member also and the driveshaft will have to be shortened if it needs it.
In my case I won't have to because shorten mine since the slip yoke asm was back quite a bit form what is recommended. |

Just curious. Why would you want to move it back? What would the advantages be?

There are several reasons for setting the motor back.
1. I'm installing an Keisler transmission that is longer and will require cutting the driveshaft down to fit. If I can set the engine back a few more inches, maybe I can get a new one piece driveshaft made. 2. I'm going to use an transmission crossmember for the new trans. so I can get by with just the motor mounts. 3. I'm installing 2.5"corvette center dump manifold so setting the engine back will save the headache if routing the down pipes. 4. The distributer is a rebuilt pionts with a Petronix module so I don't need all the room loke an HEI Thanks :metal: |

Slid the mounts back to the 6 cyl position 14 years ago. TH350 with a trans mount. 2.5" corvette rams horns, haven't put exhausts on yet, I was tired of the headers. 1" of clearance firewall to HEI.

Mine used to be a six and I converted it to a 350/350. It always seemed a little front heavy and squirrely so now that I have the engine out I'm thinking of sliding it back some. Also, my slip yoke has more than enough clearance and 3/4 to 1 inch will actually help it there.

I have a 70 C/10 with a 305 in itAnd it sets too far back. the EFI sets very close to the fire wall. Iam thinking about putting a 400 SB and moving it forward but I think I'll have to get a diffrent drive shift?
