Taillight wiring Help Needed
 

I need a little help wiring in my taillights. I'm using taillights from 60-66 (with wires) and the harness for a 68 model. I cut the plugs off and thought I could splice the wires from the light harness to the rear harness. Here is what I have:

from driver side light - yellow wire and brown wire
passenger side - brown wire and green wire

from harness (short wires to driver side) - brown, yellow and light green wire
from harness (longer wires to passenger side) - brown, light green and dark green.

any help would be great.

Brown - Tail Lights (and License Plate light)
Yellow - Drivers side Brake/Turn Signal
Dark Green - Passenger side Brake/Turn Signal
Light Green - Back Up lights

You should be good to go. I'd temporarily twist the wires together and test the lights to confirm everything is correct. Then crimp some butt connectors and use heat shrink to make the permanent splices. The back of the truck gets all the road grime, rain, mud, etc. so you want those wires sealed tight and secured. Also, make sure your tail light housings are grounded.

Thanks - I keep hearing to make sure they are grounded - how do I do that?

The metal tail light housing should be bolted or screwed to the fender or bumper. If everything is metal to metal, it should be fine. Sometimes if there's a lot of rust you won't make good contact. The whole metal truck body is the "ground" or negative "-" part of your electrical connection. Your wires provide the power or positive "+" to the lights, and the metal body is the "-" ground that completes the electric connection.
