noob here| speed sensor, temp sensor, and brake questio

Sorry guys. I'm new to all of this.

I just bought a 1979 c10 and i wanna start lurking into some of minor issues it has.

*the speed sensor is out, where do i locate the sensor on the trans? what is it that usually goes out?

*also the temp gauge is out as well. any location info is greatly apreciated.

*the truck is braking at a 1:1 ratio :? is that how these trucks are? i see a booster and a MC... how can i take care of these.

-I'm gonna get around to buying a helms manual for my learning
but any input is appreciated thanks.

Hi,
I'm new here too!!
That sounds like you have a great place to stsrt.........it's always been my mantra: "If in question about anything, Buy a book"!!! I used to work as a mechanic, but my physical body retired me early and I have probably forgotten more than I know, LOL!!
Mostly, I learned to check every sensor that could be checked with an ohm meter and some; such as speed sensors (read: "Some") can be cleaned and replaced with fair success!! But, that's where books on your specific truck will come in handy!
BTW: Chilton costs more, but will have more of what you need!!!
Good Luck and hope to see your ride sometime!!!
Frank

No speed sensor on your truck unless it's had a late trans installed. It will have gears for the speedo on the left side of the tailhousing. it could be a stripped gear or a broke cable. Does it gave factory cruise?

Water temp sensor should be in the driver side head, make sure it's plugged up. To test it ground the wire and the gauge should peg hot.

Not sure about your brake question.

welcome to the forum.

tsup fellas. so I've looked into all of this.

my transmission has a plastic plug like thing on the Driver side. with a line that runs up the firewall of the truck. that plastic is leaking so much trans fluid. what is this plug. It bolted down good but yet has a lot of play on it. Ive tried to find it on autozones website but no luck.
