Gas tank
 

I have searched and read different threads on different tanks but nothing conclusive...is there a certain tank that fits the burbs better than others or that take the least amount of work? Besides an aftermarket stainless ie $$$. Hoping for at least 30 gal.

I have a 71 burb and for some reason it has a 73 32 gallon tank in it. I think it's 73 because when I tried to get the gas gauge working I used a 73 sending unit to get it working. Hope this helps I didn't put it in myself so I don't know how easy it was to swap.

Although I have not yet replaced my Burb tank, I have replaced the tank in my Blazer with a stock aftermarket steel tank which is sold by various reproduction vendors. I bought mine new from someone who never used it so I can't tell you the brand. The 21 gal. tanks that are sold for the 67-72 Burbs are the same as for the 69-72 Blazers. They come with just a fill tube stub that sticks out straight at about 45 degrees upward which doesn't work for connecting to your fill tube hose on a Blazer so in that application you would need to use the fill neck from an original tank or fabricate one that can either be braised/soldered to the tank or double clamped with a piece of gasoline fill hose. I assume that you may have to do something similar on a Burb install - perhaps someone else who has done it in a Burb will chime in. In any event, replace the sending unit while the tank is down and make sure it is well grounded to the frame.

I just replaced with fuel tank in a 72 suburban with an LMC replacement tank. Just like the comment in the previous post, the neck on the replacement tank is short, straight and at 45 degree angle. The original tank has a curve in the pipe coming out of the tank. I had to remove the neck from the original tank and shorten it to make the bend to hook up to the outside filler tube. Without the curve in the metal tube the rubber fuel connection hose would crease closing off about 1/2 of the hose. I had to use two short hoses, one the connect the original tube to the tank and the other to connect the original tube to the outside filler tube. Hope this is helpful.

Thanx for the replies. Since I will be going with an efi setup I think I will try to use a early 90's 31 gallon Blazer efi tank. I will switch the inlet over and try to make it all work. I will post about the install when I get to it.

my plan is to try a full size chevy van tank. I measured a few at the junk yard and the measurements I got off them fit my frame. They have left fill tubes unlike the 73-91 Burbs. There may have been someone on here that has done this before.

There was a dealer installed 30 gallon tank installed on our year trucks. They are uncommon but you will see them for sale from time to time.

I have a big tank that was just removed from a 72 Suburban that we are going to get rid of. It was built in 1974 according to the markings on the tank. I was told it was a 45 gallon tank and it looks like it.

If you swap the 31 gal tank end-for-end it will work as-is (this does NOT work with the 40/41 gal tanks). You will need the crossmembers from the donor or make some. I have a 31 gal Blazer tank in my '72 and that is what I did.

I think that I remember a post by member " teeitup " who had a couple of old ones that were outside in the weather. Perhaps they could be boiled out.
