Power to Manual Steering box

What have you guys done or used for a manual steering box? I've been thinking about doing this. Its an '87 C10 with a BBC and an automatic. Its just a Street/Strip toy. Is their a box that works better than another or, are they truck specific?

Thanks

I found a good tight used box on a 80's pickup in the boneyard. It had been leaking grease so I took it apart and cleaned out the old grease. I am installing it on my son's 70 model Street strip truck with a 454.

I wish their were more of those in area. How's your son's truck coming? I've read the thread along the way.

I did just find out that, 67-87 steering gears all interchange with each other.

It's going slow. I just got a divorce. We are gonna try to jump on it soon and get it going.

Sorry to hear about the divorce. Looking forward to seeing more updates on the truck.

If you had a power box and swapped in a manual box, do you have to change the pitman arm to a manual pitman arm? I see on parts places that they have three, one for power assist, one for manual, and one for 4x4. Mine is a 2wd and originally a p/s setup. I want to go manual since its a strip only truck now. Any thoughts on this? Thank you for your input!

Yes, you have to change the pitman arm. I'm getting my box with arm on Sat. for $50 from a friend from Ohio. :metal:
