Lower's 70 Ol Green build

Well I guess ill start my build thread.
First off this truck was bought in OKC by my great grandpa in 1970, I still have the original purchase agreement and the original service manual. Original 350/350 truck. It has never left the family and I finally got my hands on it in 2005. It had been a farm truck its whole life and had just sat outside since it was new.
I had a friend of mine start the body work on it about 7 years ago then he got deployed so the body still needs alot of sanding and straightening. Replaced rockers and cab corners, still needs the body support on the pass side put in and i am sure i am missing a few other places that need attention. Mounted a fuel cell in the rear framer rails. At one time I had a built 355 in it but sold that motor to fund another project that led me to the lsx swap i am about to do.
I am building it as my daily driver, already got a 5.3 and 4l60 from a 2000 donor truck. It has been dropped 4 and 6, I plan on bags somewhere down the road.
The pics make it look like a leopard where the trim holes were shaved, gas filler, antenna, tailgate was smoothed but i am not happy with it so ill end up replacing it at some point.
Never mind the tires and wheels in the current pics, I stole the tires off of it to put my current daily driver lol, the ralleys might get reused but im trying to find a set of 20's at a decent deal to roll on.
And now that you skipped the novel, on with some pics.

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build

Im on days off starting Wednesday and plan on getting the motor stabbed and get all I can put together. Ill be sure to stop and take time to take a few pics as I go. I just hope the parts I ordered will work together.
Got all my fuel system fittings and hose, headers, motor and trans mounts. I think I got the wiring ready to go(using the underhood fuse block). If it all goes as planned I hope to have it running ASAP.

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build

Got started on it yesterday and got alot of progress done. First thing I ordered the wrong brackets, thought I got the stock location brackets but they were the the forward mounts. Nothing the welder and plasma didnt take care of, now it actually sets a 1/2 in back from stock. Got to figure out a drive shaft and get some other small stuff done and we should be back on the road shortly.
Headers are Shoenfeld truck headers, had to ding one tube for clearance around the lower control arm nut other than that they fit awesome.
P.S. Every part I have ordered that was supposed to be a bolt on has had a welder or grinder on lol.
She is a little dirty but all that can be fixed later.

Can finally take the chain off.

I have alot of wire loom to replace and alot of cleaning to do, Ill worry about making the motor pretty when it comes back out and gets to the machine shop. Anyone know where the best place place to get the large engine cover?
I lack trans lines and my fuel being hooked up to see if this thing will fire off! Ill let eveyone know tomorrow how that turns out :D

Got to get the driveshaft cut to length, throttle pedal installed, and get a intake setup together and she is in buisness. Waiting on my electric fan zip ties to come in to get it stuck to the new radiator.
Click on the first pic for the initial startup vid.

Sweet! How do you become a member of the C10 club (sticker)?

So are you happy with XP racings tune job on your ECM? I need to get my rear O2 sensors deleted from my ECM and was wondering who tunes locally since I have been out of the custom world for a long time. Also is it XP or HP? I used to deal with HP racing but they seem to have disappeared.... never heard of XP Racing. Later

OH yeah I watched the Vids! that truck is kickin some serious balls! are you going to swap the intake for a camaro intake or what? I saw you said the intake would't be there for much longer. Maybe a F.A.S.T. intake? Sweet

Nice...and fast work on the swap!!!

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build

Oro sent me the stickers, send him a message and sweet talk him and you might get a couple.
Its XP, he is up off of expressway behind bob moore, his name is Brett. Probably keep the intake for awhile, going to swap heads, cam, bore it to a 5.7 and use a ls6 rotating assembly next. Just gotta get the interior coated with some anti rust and some sound deadening so its a little more pleasurable to drive, and get a set of gears. The 3.08's are killing the low end. You know of any good places to get some used 20's for a decent deal? Ive looked all over the city and cant come up with anything.
Thanks VA!

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build

Thanks for the info lower.

For wheels and tires I like LWM in norman and Merles frame and alignment on shields ss okc. LWM used to do a lot of trade ins so they had good used packages but I haven't been there in a while They also used to have wheel and tire packages starting at $1200 for 20s. I see some decent 20" truck wheels on craigslist sometimes. I got a good deal on mine, sold the truck for more than I paid for it and kept the wheels:metal:

If I would just bite the bullet and swap to 5 lug my search would probably be a little wider.

Re: Lower's 70 Ol Green build

Got the seats mocked up for final install, new dimmer switch, obd2 port, check engine light, and scan gauge all hooked up. Changed the plugs out, they were horrible, can anyone spot whats wrong with that picture? Tried to get all the seams sealed back up but after this rain we just got apperantly I need to seam seal some more. Got the floor prepped and painted with por-15, went over that with their undercoating for some sound deadener. Started with the sticky backed insulation but ran out. Who would have thought that 24 sq ft wouldnt cover the floorboards and back wall.
