Brake booster?

I am putting a bigblock in my 71 c10 and I'm wondering if I will have clearance issues between my tall valve covers and my stock brake booster. If I do have issues can I run a smaller one and will a smaller one cause braking issues or is the newer brake booster better than the stock one? Lastly if I do have to go smaller is there a brand I need to buy or vice versa stay away from?..Thanks

Im sure somebody with more big block knowledge than me will chime in but these trucks come through with big blocks so you should be good.

With tall valve covers you may have clearance issues. The factory valve covers clear the stock booster. You could go to aftermarket dual diaphragm unit in say the 8 inch range, but it may require some fabrication or drilling to get it to mount to the factory booster bracket. The others with BB w experience may chime in and over ride my comments so take with grain of salt.

I have wanted to machine some shims to space the lower portion of the booster bracket out from the firewall, and bring the master cylinder closer to a horizontal position. the "nose" down attitude has always bugged me.

I'm interested in what people say too. I have the same setup. Subscribed.

I don't have a very clear pic, but if you consider my short covers are 2 1/2" tall and there is at most a 2" gap between my short covers and the booster, and the tall covers are 3 1/2"....so I would say that they'll fit.
I'm gonna check this for sure in the morning with the tape measure and a better pic.

Re: Brake booster?

I bought one of the 8 inch booster/master cylinder combos from a vendor on ebay.. VERRRRY disappointed in it. Acts just like manual brakes. Vendor said I needed more vaccum, told him I was drawing almost 19 lbs. The bigger boosters are the way to go. In case anyone wants to know, think the ebay seller was autowarehouse or something like that. We DO NOT recommend this seller.
