70 gmc 1/2 ton or 3/4
 
i just bought a 70 gmc, how do you tell if it is a half ton or 3/4. there is 5 leafs in the back.

how many lug notz per wheel, 5=1/2 ton 6=1/2 ton eight or more 3/4 easiest way I know. there is a chevy/gmc vin breakdown list on this someplace, where I do not remember, with that you can find options build place engine size trans. Have fun I did on my 2.

CS1 = 1/2 ton
CS2 = 3/4 ton
CS3 = 1 ton

There's a badge on the front fenders the says; 1500=1/2 ton, 2500=3/4 ton, and 3500= 1 ton. 3/4 and 1 ton have 8 lugs.

Unless you have a V8 then the Vins start out:

CE1 = 1/2 ton
CE2 = 3/4 ton
CE3 = 1 ton
