turndowns at cab
Thinking about putting turndowns on my truck, but only running them to the cab and not out all the way... i was just wondering if anyone had some pictures of what they might look like. Thanks

Re: turndowns at cab
I have no pics but the "drone" will kill the interior

Re: turndowns at cab
I had a 69 years ago and I did this, after blasting and coating my full length tri-y thorley headers I took some flowmaster mufflers and header collectors to an exhaust shop and told them I need 18" between them. Well I couldn't hear myself think much less a radio in that thing, it was loud! I traded it to a friend and the first thing he did was put a full length exhaust on it. I may have a pic somewhere, ill see if I can find one for you.

here's mine....it does drone, but that lumpy cam sound just makes it so hard to run a full length exhaust system sometime (although I am considering it:D)

Re: turndowns at cab
i also have this on my truck sounds alright outside, but inside i about go crazy from the noise

Re: turndowns at cab
though not on a chevy, my daily driver dodge with the 318/5spd has straight 2 1/2 under the cab, the drone gets old, but around town, its tough sounding. thank god for subs, they help cover the sound to some degree. i can sure get some heads to turn, i can play with corvettes/camaros/stangs with pipes and they chuckle to hear a truck next to them. ive even messed with harleys, sure does surprise them when they are cruising the interstate and i roll up next to them and drop gears, they look to see whats making the noise. if i were you and what im going to do on my 10, is dump it in between the front of the bed and the rear end. that way it sounds good, but doesnt annoy you on a cruise.

Re: turndowns at cab
i love that look gcburdic!! Right now I have longube headers with glasspacks out the back and they turn outwards at a 45 degree angle.. how much louder do you think under the cab will be?? a lot or not that much.. It doesnt really matter to me how it sounds on the inside I just want the look and also a good sounding loud exhaust

I really like hearing a healthy engine,,, but,, on a long trip it might a little tiring. Noise can wear on you like hard work can,, just beats you down after a while.

Re: turndowns at cab

Re: turndowns at cab
use dynamax vt mufflers they are designed specifically to reduce drone......

Re: turndowns at cab
under the cab...... yeah..... it is great in theory... but if you drive your truck a lot you will find yourself always thinking about how loud it is...
I had mine dumping right under the cab, no turndowns. I had to put some 90's on after the mufflers and point them to the side of the truck to even think about enjoying the ride. Currently have it all redone exiting right in front of the rear tires.. I think they are perfect, loud when you want them to be, but they don't bug you while cruising on the freeway. Re: turndowns at cab
whats that cross piece for?

Re: turndowns at cab
On my 70 swb I welded sleeves through my cross member and ran headers with 3" pipe to a set of Super 44s with turn downs right behind them. I had no problem at all with interior sound.
Here is the best picture I could find. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1166841731 |
Re: turndowns at cab
I love the sound of a healthy engine. I think they sound best,no matter how long, when they exit out from under the body. Get's the fumes away, too. I'm not into carbon monoxide. I don't like the reverberating sound made by dumps up under the body. I would never run any exhaust any shorter than at least back "past" the cab for the sake of safety and health.I've heard many a 500+ 3" exhaust car with full length exhaust that you know are bad from the sound way down the block. Anywhere on the side sounds way baddass compared to straight out the back. Something about separating the sound from each pipe gives a more radical sound to me. Straight out the back smooths it out and puts it behind you.
