Can't decide keep the long bed or switch to stepside.
1 Attachment(s)
I am at the point in my build where I have to make a decision. Keep my long bed on there now, or switch to a step side?
The build is 1966 c-10 with a front and rear porterbuilt dropmember kit, dropping in a ls(x) motor. Both would look good laying on the ground so I wanted your opinions. The truck is meant to be my Home depot runner along with my weekend wheeler so when I purchased it I was happy with the Long bed, Since then I have found a few trucks Lay'd out with the step side and have started leaning that way. Whats ur opinion. I attached a pic of my inspiration truck :metal: |
Re: Can't decide keep the long bed or switch to stepside.
Might be wrong, but isn't that a short bed stepside in picture? Are you going to run a long bed stepside? i would keep the long bed fleetside. IMO

Re: Can't decide keep the long bed or switch to stepside.
I currently have a long bed fleet side, Considering short bed step side.

I love my long fleet but i think my next build is gonna be a frame laying stepside.
But, in the end just do what makes you smile more!! |
Re: Can't decide keep the long bed or switch to stepside.
Are you cutting the frame or using a donor?

laynrockers ...
We all have opinions and likes...do what pleases you and all will go well. Good luck :metal: |
Re: Can't decide keep the long bed or switch to stepside.
are you saying the guy has a shortbed stepside available for you? If so it won't fit...
Also if it is the longbed make sure it's a 8ft bed and not a 9ft bed. |
Re: Can't decide keep the long bed or switch to stepside.
A long fleet will be more useful as a Home Depot runner.
Personally, I think that truck in the pic would look better as a fleetside. Either way, I love the look of these trucks both as stepsides and fleetsides. I might have missed it, but can we see what your truck looks like as it is now? Posted via Mobile Device |
Re: Can't decide keep the long bed or switch to stepside.
Either way you go is gonna look slick. My longbed fleetside lays out and I love it but seeing some of these short steppers makes me want to do another one. I truly believe that the 60-60 GM trucks are the only ones that look just as good in a longbed as they do in a shortbed.

Re: Can't decide keep the long bed or switch to stepside.
If you do end up going the step side / short bed route, let me know. I'd definitely be interested in the long bed fleetside bedsides.

If i swap frames and truck beds don't think my bed measurement will matter? Let me know.. I attached pics of it as it sits now, One of the original owners welded in 1/4 inch steel plating for the bed in place of the wood. I probobly removed 1000 pds from that bed maybe this is why I started to turn away from the long bed haha:lol: |
Re: Can't decide keep the long bed or switch to stepside.
Gotcha didnt know you were gonna swap from lwb to swb. That will work so long as it is a 63 to 66 frame

Re: Can't decide keep the long bed or switch to stepside.
I dig'em all, short/long, step/fleet though my favorite is a short step with big back window and custom cab trim.
That said, from what I see in the pics of your truck I'd rock it like it is! That bed looks solid from the pics you posted. In the end you just gotta go with what YOU like.... |

Here's the picture of my long step side bed you asked for. Let me know if you would want to trade for that long fleet bed.

I like both fleet and stepsides, but if I had a fleet side as nice as the one you have there I think I would have to stay with it. That is a good looking truck. Build it and start looking for a cab and clip for shorty frame and box. Just my thoughts , cant find many up here in Canada that look as good as what you have there to start with.
I am sure what ever you decide will look great! |
Re: Can't decide keep the long bed or switch to stepside.
I cut my frame 3 years ago and went from long wide bed to short fleet and now stepside. Go short!:metal:
