Holes in 64 stepside bed rails?
I don't know why, but I have very small holes drilled in the side of the bed rails on my 64 stepside. They are all lined up and about 4-5 inches apart. I have no idea why they would be there. Could they have been for the snap on bed top?
I have searched every parts website and this site a lot and can't find any kind of trim piece that would go there, so I'm thinking someone put something aftermarket on it. Does anyone have any ideas? I can't figure out why someone would put something so cheap on something so beautiful. |

Re: Holes in 64 stepside bed rails?
In the old days this is how tonneau covers were installed. The perimeter of the bed had the male half of the snap screwed into the sheet metal. The female half of the snap was fastened to the cover. There weren't any support bows, just the cloth naugahyde stretched over the bed.
Same principle was applied to roadsters that ran at the lake beds. The middle of the tonneau had a zipper so either the entire cockpit could be covered, or the driver side could be unzipped/unsnapped. |

Thanks, guys. That's what I was thinking. Although functional, I can't imagine one of our trucks looking good with one of these covers.
