Frame Preference

I have the choice of building on 2 different frames and wanted to get members feedback on which to use.

Frame #1:
1967 Chevy 1/2 ton 2wd with durms on all 4 corners, trailing arms & coils out back, and a homemade tranny crossmember. No rust. Very straight.

Frame #2:
1968 GMC 1/2 ton 2wd with drums on all 4 corners, leaf spring rear, no tranny crossmember. Painted. Very straight.

I will be using the 67 small window cab for the build.

Re: Frame Preference

It all depends on what you want your truck to be.

The '67 does not have the dimple for the power steering box, but does have coil springs which many like because it gives a smoother ride and is easier to lower.

The '68 has the dimple for the power steering box, but does have leaf springs which give a slightly more stable ride when pulling a trailer. It is a little harder to lower.

You did not mention the gear ratio of the rear-ends, that could also make a difference in which one to chose.

Re: Frame Preference

The both frames have power steering installed. As for the axles the 67 has the baby inline 6cyl and 3 on the tree, the 68 I was told it has a mini spool wrapped with 3.73's. I don't mind swapping the axles from 1 to the other.

Welcome aboard from Central Florida (Lake County)!
I would use the 67 with the coil spring setup for all the above mentioned reasons. Glad to see you building a small back window unit, I'll be doing the same this summer.
