Real opinions on how bagged trucks ride
I'm undecided in whether to bag my 68 lwb, convert the rear to 4 link and coil overs, or stick with the drop coils and leafs. I'm wanting the pros and cons for each. Now a little background info on the truck and I... My truck is my first from when I was sixteen. I have a heavy foot and I use to street race the truck back in high school. Thankfully I never got caught :metal:
I don't want to cut it up too bad to take away from it being that memory but, I definitely want to upgrade the truck. :wop: |

It depends a lot on how it is set up. Make sure whoever posts lists their setup and air pressures they run

They ride great if you run a properly designed system. Its hit or miss if you just throw parts on it.

It can ride great, if done correctly. I have never personally rode in a 6-link truck, but have heard nothing but great things. A good 4-link system will ride well though, and don't have to do the 6-link just to get a good ride. I just heard, if you have the means to do it, this is the way to go.

That kit seems like its a bit over kill on the bolt on arms. Just my opinion. It would seem that using a system like the PorterBuilt rear seem more stout and I don't see why the ride would change much without the extra arms on the back. I'm definitely not looking to bounce the truck or looking for instant jar you out of your seat air ride hieght adjustments but not snail speed either. I've only riden in low budget radom part throw together bagged mini trucks so I can't justify throwing out the idea of bags from their examples.

They have been using air suspension on large buses and moving vans to give a better ride for decades. It all depends on how it's set-up and how much pressure is used. Air bags are also used to increase load capacity. The whole concept of air suspension is to give fully adjustable suspension from soft to hard. How much your truck gets cut up depends on how low you go. You don't have to cut anything to have the average drop of 4/6. In fact,I have static 4/6 on my '67 project and am considering,at some point,going to rear bags. With 6" drop in the rear and no c-notch I have minimal travel and will need to take care not to bottom out...even empty. I want to tow and/or haul in the bed. With bags I can do that.

The Porterbuilt 4-link is a perfect example of a well done 4-link. By no means, was I saying that the 6-link was the only way to go, or is the only want to get a good ride. I just have heard very good things. The main difference, is the bags on the arms and leverage point at where they lift vs. just bags behind the axle.

Thanks you all for the info and personal experiences. I really like that porterbuilt setup, I heard y'all were working on a setup that didn't require the bed floor to be cut out? I'm a Diesel mech by trade and have always enjoyed working with air suspension. I'm currently active duty AirForce in SD and I don't have the resources for welding here yet, still saving for a welder. I'm just trying to get low/ride/perform/and not cut so much out of the bed or truck that I can't use it as a truck anymore. I don't plan on doing alot ot towing but I'd liketo still have the option to throw a flat bed car hauler behind it if need be.

I've never had a bagged truck/car before...but, would definetetly will do another...after test driving several..I like the way mine rides.

You don't necessarily have to cut into the bed and do a step-notch, it just depends on how low you want to go. The step notch of course, will allow you to go lower. If you are planning to tow, then just make sure to re-inforce the c-notch very well, to make sure it is strong.

i can say this from doing it that a 4 link is 100% better that leafs it makes the rearend alot tighter, and for the bags its all in how its done I am trying to remember but I think bags in front of the axel gives you better ride and putting them behind the axel it better for towing i think over the axel is the worst ride from what I have rode in and the first one I did was over the axel and it wasnt bad but after ridding in one with bags in front of the axel I could tell a differance. and the psi to raise bag depends on the size of the bag
