fuel tank removal

hello all, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on how to remove the fuel sender from the oem tank in a 68 cab? I see there is a seperate ring that (should?) spin off, but there are tabs that are locking it in place. also, is there any trick for getting the tank out? seems like it might take some squirmin to get the filler neck to clear. thanks

the ring on the sender can be removed with a punch/screwdriver and a hammer just gently knock it around until it clears to come off. Yea the filler neck will take some moving usually to get it out of the hole but not a hard job.

Make sure to remove as much gas as you can. My tank was full for winter storage when I decided to remove it for floor patching. Had to use the hand pump to empty it.

As Hubscrub said, gently tap the lock ring around with a punch or screwdriver.

If your filler neck grommet is real tight, it may help to spray a little silicone lube or Armorall around it. Unbolt the tank, pull and wiggle til the filler neck clears.
Then patch all the rust holes that were hiding under and behind the tank :(
