Quadrajet Problems?

Thinking I have a carb problem on an 85 Chevrolet 350 standard. Getting fuel to carb. Pump is pumping strong. Return line and all filters are clean and clear. If I put a little gas in the carb it will crank and run for about 45 seconds at idle then die. Try to restart and nothing. Add fuel to carb and starts back up. If I ease into the throttle, it will rev all the way then die. Acts just like it is running out of fuel in the carb. Not real familiar with Quadrajets so wondering could this be a float sticking? Hole in a float? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

^^^^thats what I was going to suggest, sound like the filter in the carb is plugged. The filter is inside where the fuel line connects to the carb. Disconnect the fuel line and unscrew the large nut at the connector.

Filters are new all the way through from tank to in carb. Traced fuel line to make sue no extra filters had been put inline.

Re: Quadrajet Problems?

If the in-carb filter has the black valve on it(anti-siphon valve),it may be in backwards, and preventing fuel from entering the carb.Try reversing it.The black valve should be toward the outside(I've made this mistake, before, also).

No anti siphon. Need to get a kit before I crack it open but that's about the only thing I haven't done yet

Blow compressed air into the inlet. Not to much 35psi should do

X2 on the fuel filter or needle& seat. If that fails, I have found temporary satisfaction in downing 6 Millers and running in circles hollering profanity. Fix the problem?, No, but it makes for temporary stress relieving fun!!

That works. That or a chain attached to the carb and flail it on the ground and bolt on a Holley or edelbrock. Those carbs actually work and can be fixed easy.
