What lowering parts do i need for my 72?
4 Attachment(s)
I just got thru ordering 2" front drop springs, front and rear drop shocks, and a rear flip kit. I will be ordering front drop spindles soon. What else do i need, as in shock relocator brackets, pinion shims, or c-notch brackets. Just wanting to know what else i need to order to do this swap. My truck is a 72 Longbed 1/2 ton with leaf springs. Here's a couple of pics of the truck i'm working on. Thanks guys, Joseph

Re: What lowering parts do i need for my 72?
On my 1972 GMC, I removed the rear leaf spring overloads and then installed 2 1/2" rear drop shackles. It was good for about a 3" drop in the rear.
Then used 1 1/5" drop springs in front. That was it. Check out the pic on my "public profile" page to see how it sits. Gary |

Good looking truck man!
Things to consider: How far are you going to drop it with spidles? 2, 2.5, 3" ? Your new 2" drop springs are going to only net about 1" drop vs. your old original stock springs. Chances are the springs have sagged a little over the years. How much are you going to drop it with the flip? about 4"? I'm guessing? Do you plan to haul anything significant in the bed anytime soon? a load of mulch (heavy stuff?) Give us an idea how much you're wanting to drop it and we'll help you out. For example: a 3" rear drop vs. a 6" rear drop means your pinion shims will be a little different, the CNotch comes into play, track bar, etc. .. Does it have buckets in it? :D |
Re: What lowering parts do i need for my 72?
Thanks guys. I am trying to get it as low as I can with a static drop. I was planning on using the 2 1/2" drop spindles with the 2" drop springs in the front, I thought that would get me low enough in the front. I am pretty sure the flip kit will get me lower than a 4" drop in the rear. Just wanting to know what everyone else has run into as far as what parts were needed and any tips on what parts were needed and maybe some part numbers and where to buy them. No it doesn't have buckets. It will have a new black and white houndstooth bench in it in the near future. Thanks for the compliments and help guys. Joseph
