speedo problem?
MY speedometer will not read correctly. ONce it gets up to a indicated 60mph [really 50mph] it starts bouncing around also. I know the gears in the tranny are correct for my setup. The speedo cable is good and hooked up correctly. So this leaves only the actual speedo to be wrong, right? Is it possable somthing inside I can fix, or do I need a new one?

Usually it because the cable is shot or because its binding up somewhere that causes teh bouncy action;
|
It could also be where the plastic housing for the cable was dry and it has worn it down and has slop in it now. I would try a cable housing or a different speedo.

What do you mean by really 50 mph? Then you say the tranny speedo gears are correct for your setup. If they are correct, why is the speedo reading not?
Just curious here. Oh, and I agree with guys on their suggestions. |
Mine used to dance like that until I pulled out the cable and coated it with wheel bearing grease.

Make sure there are no tight bends.
All turns should be smooth and large. Check the connection at the gauge too. If you are hearing sounds inside, I would check the connection at the gauge. Also from the engine bay, try pulling the cable out a little bit. If you have it in too far (behind dash, not in gauge) it can put pressure on the back of the gauge and cause this too. |
