Info needed on both lowering and seat belts
I have a '72 GMC half ton with factory rear leaf springs. I want to lower the rear 2-3 inches. Can I just remove a leaf and if so, which one? I'm thinking maybe the second one from the top.
I also want to install 3 point seat belts. My truck only has lap belts, but it does have the mount welded in for the upper third point. Can I buy the complete set of belts from a newer truck? Thanks. |

I know you can buy aftermarket 3 point belts from places like LMC. I think there is even a nice used set for sale on the board right now.

Re: Info needed on both lowering and seat belts
I have a 71 C-10 Longbed with leaf springs.
Seat Belts.... I put aftermarket 3 point in last summer. It was very easy and bolted right in to the upper anchor. Springs.... I replaced mine because a previous owner tried lowering by heating and bending the end of the springs. It then rubbed the cross braces on the box. It was a guessing game to get it the desired height. It is a lot easier working with the springs with the bed off, but then it is hard to visualize the height of the back of the truck. |
Re: Info needed on both lowering and seat belts
i bought the 3 point belts from lmc and they bolted in easily and work fine. However the short belt with the "female" end is too long and ends up hitting me in the middle of my stomach instead of down around my hip.
So I just cross over the passenger and driver short belts. Meaning i buckle into the passenger side and the passenger uses the driver side. Works great! |
Re: Info needed on both lowering and seat belts
I lowered my 72 GMC by removing 1 or 2 leafs (it was awhile ago, so I don't remember how many or which ones). However, when I took it to the drag strip, I had terrible wheel hop and ended up shearing off the rear u-joint. I attribute this to the missing leafs.
They do make some drop shackles, but I don't think it will lower it much. On my 69 GMC, I switched to a trailing arm/coil spring setup with 4" lowering springs. |
