77 chevy truck tailgate band
 

so I have a 77 chevy fleetside shortbed truck that is stock but im fixing it up and im looking for a tailgate band to put on. does anyone know where i can buy one online?

Id check your local junkyards, I scored mine for $20 and it was in pretty good condition.

Does anyone have measurements/how to install the narrow band on a 77 tailgate? I have all the clips just can't find anything on where to drill the holes...

I can get the measurements from mine tomorrow afternoon. I'll post pictures as well, where the holes are drilled.

Just to clarify, the narrow band you're after is the one with the 1-yr only* yellow paint in the recessed areas, correct?

* - excluding the special edition trucks of other years.

Mine is in very good shape so I'd prefer to keep it. I saw the one on CL you're talking about. Hopefully E.D.75GMC can post measurements and pics.

If restoring a 77, how would one know if their truck came with a wide or narrow band?

I am pretty sure Silverado was the only ones that came with a wide band. All lower models came with a narrow band if they had any band at all.

My 75 High Sierra has the narrow band and the 76 High Sierra I bought for parts had the wide band. There's no RPO for it so I'm not sure how the factory went about deciding what got what

On Chevy, Cheyenne was the only one to have a narrow band. Scottsdale, custom deluxe and bonanza had no band. Silverado had the wide one. Lots of people prefer the narrowband, so a lot of them get installed on other interior packages. Not sure about GMC, but I thought high Sierra was the equivalent of Cheyenne.

The 76 High Sierra above has the 81 and newer wide band so it was probably added later. It should have came with the narrow band
