Seeking Advice (Noob)

Hey everyone great forum. I'm looking at trading my car (honda accord) for a c10 here in Virginia. I've only attempted one project and it was a 73 mgb which turned out nice. I don't drive a lot for work and I'm hoping to find a c10 and use it as a daily when I can't drive the Mgb (rain, snow and cold). Plus fix it up as I'm driving.

Do these make ok daily drivers?
What should I look out for most?
I like the looks of 67-72 better but should I look at other years?
Anyone on here interested in trading for a gas saver?

Here are the trucks I'm interested in, any thoughts?
This truck has a 305 motor with 89.000 origanal miles on it ! The interea is factory and looks brand new really nice ! It has a sony disc player with two 10in bass speakers and two 6in treble speakers and a high watt amp It jams! has factory wheels with center caps and stainless bands, it also has flow master mufflers, No rust !

next

Thanks so much for your reply's

It's really going to boil down to your personal preference.. I loooove the 67-72 range and am in love with the lines, so my choice is the older one :)

Re: Seeking Advice (Noob)

check them both out for RUST in the cabs first. If rusty in the cab then move on to the next one, maybe cross them both off and keep looking. Pull on the windshield trim and see if there is rust behind it, bad. Look under and see the condition of the cab mounts, floors etc... rusty cabs are a problem.

I like the looks of the older one but it is your preference. I don't think you should pick one over the other because of stereo tho. If everything were the same I'd go with the older one but that is just me

Yea I could really care less for the stereo I only copied his ad for you all to see. I like the 71 as well but I noticed the grill was not from a 71. Do you all notice anything else? It does not have AC but I guess I could put it in later.

Re: Seeking Advice (Noob)

I guess a great deal depends on how good of a mechanic you are or how much you want to spend on it. Even if it had AC it would be a R12 system and pretty much defunct. New ac units are definitely available but are rather pricey.

I'm sticking with my first criteria, RUST, if it has a good cab then the body panels are all replaceable and if it runs and drives then great.

The new grills are also available and not hugely expensive.

I like the '71 vs. the newer one

good luck

Some more Pictures
How does it look? Does it look like a OK truck to start with? It's not cheap but does run.

I normally like cars and trucks to stay original but I think this one has been modified to some extent. The engine bay looks sparse.

Looks like it may have had an aftermarket air setup. It has some of the brackets on the engine and the two holes in the firewall would be for the hoses.

I'm also going to look at this 79 in the morning. Looks like this one may be more daily driver friendly, but I don't drive a whole lot maybe every other day.

both is ok, i'm leaning toward the squares i have two 67-72s but i would love to have a 2wd square to daily drive there just plain sweet!! especially the red one

Re: Seeking Advice (Noob)

Heater core is bypassed on the 71 so you would be swapping a new core, fun! I also notice the custom hybrid alternator bracket. I would pick up the first truck the red square body in a heartbeat. the 79 blue square looks pretty clean too. thats my 2c, later

Re: Seeking Advice (Noob)

Where is the 71 located? The advantage to that one is disc brakes. How did the area above the windshield look? Cab supports? Looks to have a slip on rocker patch on it on the driver's side so might be hiding a lot of rust there....

If it's close in to Richmond I would be happy to look at a truck for you. I know a lot more about the 67-72's than the 73-87's and have a lot of parts for the 67-72 years...

Looks to be a true 71 grille with that center bar added....the grille that's supposed to be there is missing.

Re: Seeking Advice (Noob)

I am a fan of both body styles. The newer ones tend to have more features, like power windows, etc.. If that is important to you. Short beds tend to be a little more popular, but again, depends on what you like best.

I would look thoroughly for rust when buying any older truck. Check the lower cab corners, and around the lower window channels.

I thought the same on the rockers (both sides) but wasnt sure. $$$$ More rust hidden inside. But I guess it depends on how much you like the truck. Apparently I really love my truck and all her rust.

I didn't even notice the custom grill. Good eye

Re: Seeking Advice (Noob)

no AC. the heater core wont be that bad to replace. Looks like a decent amount of rust. Being in the 67-72 area I only saw one truck ;P Were you looking at more than 1?
What the price on it?
