Tell me what you guys think of this truck please. And also I noticed this a lot on this forum, why do you guys call the front ends of these trucks clips when they are really not? Somebody please school me. Thanks.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

I mean everyone says that they are doing work on their front clips or changing their front clips on their truck, last I knew they didn't have a frame setup like a Camaro but am I wrong?

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

When people say "front clip", they are just talking about the front sheet metal e.i. fenders inner fenders, hood core support, etc...

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Why doesn't everyone call it a doghouse? That's what I've always heard them called, isn't clip technically wrong? Also I have more pictures of this truck but it won't let me post them.:waah:

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

I've always referred to the engine cover in a van as the doghouse. Just goes to show you the lingo in different areas can be very different.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Yeah I guess, I'm just used to being around Camaro's so front clip to me is the front frame portion that bolts to the car.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

If its called clips or doghouse....rust or cancer.....that truck has all of the above

Car'n'Guitars 04-10-2012 07:27 PM

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Actually the rust isn't all that bad mainly surface rust, only a couple bad spots. Really wish it would let me put these pictures up. Interior looks almost brand new.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

The rust on that truck is the complete opposite of mine. My truck has perfect cab supports and bad floors, where this one looks like it has perfect floors and the supports look worst then the floors.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Yeah those will be replaced if I decide to buy this which I more than likely will, just don't like that it's a 2wd.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Put a 2" body lift on and cut the hole for the transfer case, and put it on a 4x4 frame.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Don't really want to do that because this truck is a 3/4 ton.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Yeah rust is fine for me on this one it is going to be a work truck so I will be fine with that aspect.

I thought a dog house was a shelter a dog lived in, or a place where husbands usually find themselves after too many hours in the garage?

I have always called them front clips, "dog house" seems a little redneck to me. :)

I had never heard the "dog house" reference until I came here.

I would save it, doesn't look too bad to me. And I've always called the front sheet metal on any car a "clip"

Weasel Diesel 04-11-2012 12:21 PM

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Front clip is an old school bodyshop phrase. If a front end was SO damaged it needed to be replaced, then you go to the boneyard and "Clip" off a front end so you could use the parts off it,..hence Front clip. Doghouse, as far as I ever knew was the inside engine cover in a van.

Huh I guess it's pretty interesting to hear what different people call things in different regions.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

Clip=majority
Doghouse=extreme minority

I think someone at sometime just got it wrong in your circle. I've lived all across this vast country and been restoring vehicles for nearly 30 years. In mechanical terms doghouse is the van engine cover and front clip is just like the above posters said.

That said my 'doghouse' is quite comfortable, it has many tools, heat, beer fridge, toonz and offensive pics. The wife is afraid.....very afraid, I'm ok with that :)
