Rally Wheels
Looking for ideas or direction on wheels for my 66 lwb ..I am digging the chevy rally wheels , seeing different styles . Would like 8 inch wide out yonder and 7 or 8 up front . Fyi im planning on bagging her ....So what combo wheel should i go with. Do ya think the rally would look good or another style wheel? anyone ever use universal air bag system....

Don't mix the wheel width, go with 8" wheels at all four corners then stagger tire size. For example: I have 15X8 Vette rallys 4" back space with P275/60/15s rear and P255/60/15s front. Everyone loves the look!

I am running the 73-87 rally wheels, but the van versions. They are 6.5" wide instead of the 8" truck versions. They still have 4" backspace. What I did was paint the centers cherry red, added new beauty rings from Oriellys auto parts and installed spider caps to the center. The tires are Coker wide white walls. They like pretty darn good. Not sure if your looking for something like that. I am planning to airbag later this year and wanted something narrow to avoid issues later.

I also have 4 15*8' Rallys. I powder coated mine with a color close to the Argent silver they came with but had them clear coated.
I run 275*60*15 rear and 255*60*15 front first pic is new 275*60*15 BFG with new centers and trim rings. second picture is a comparison old and new wheel |

am assuming you still have the original 6 lug pattern? If so (and don't want to convert to 8-lug), 71-87 K10 (4x4) rallies will fit nicely and also clear most "stock-size" disk brake conversions.
Also consider the 71-87 stock steelies - they look great on bagged trucks also. Personally, I like narrower wheels (not sure when that happened to me, I must be getting old... er.... ) Anyhoo, 15x6 stock steelies of the aforementioned 71-87 variety are my favorites. Lots o clearance, look great, etc. If you're gonna slam it, I still prefer the 15x6 or possiblty 15x7 route. Also, prefer same size tires and wheels all the way around for a slammed truck (like the staggered approach for a stock ride height "muscle" truck, etc) Really wide (but small dia, i.e. 15") wheels look odd to me on a slammed truck. I'd either go full-tilt and put 17's or 18's on it (if you want to go "wide" at the same time as wide and low-profile - so it is proportioned "pleasingly") or stick with stock narrower width wheels with tall 75 profile tires and slam it all you want - either way, the wheel well is filled so it won't look like a tank on a matchbox chassis. But all depends what YOU like - either way, you can't go wrong. Looking fwd to the build. |
