fuel mileage with an LS1

anybody out there running an LS1 or know someone who's running an LS1 and have an idea as to what kind of fuel mileage to expect? my plans are to drop one in. found a donor car w/a 6sp trans.

Stock truck with a stock ls1, light foot, 13-15 in town, 17-20 highway. Less if more then stock truck, more then stock ls1, more then light foot.

thanks man, ive found a donor 2000 camaro with a 6sp. the owner says out on the interstate he has gotten as well as 30mpg at around 70mph. ive actually witnessed this to be true with another friend who used to have one. it seems to be because of how low the rpm's are in 6th. i guess our aerodynamics arent good enough to get close to that??

Put it in a truck, and it's a whole new ball game. Trucks are as aerodynamic as a barn door, and they are heavier.

Maybe around 700 lbs. on the weight. The Camaro weighs in at around 3300 lbs. My truck with me in it weights in at 4000.

The LS with a T-56 behind it gets 5-6 mpg better on the highway than a LS with a 4L60 or 65.

I would think a 4k pound truck should get 20+ mpg on the highway with the right rear gear.

I have owned several LS powered camaros, firebirds & corvettes and the T-56 kills the automatics in MPG.

I am installing an LS1 and 6 speed now. I can hopefully answer your question before my son graduates high school in 2020.. :banghead::banghead:

How involved is an LS-1 swap, anyways?

well from where i am with it, it doesnt seem to be that big of a deal. as long as you have the eng/trans/ecm/wiring harness out of the donor car, you will need to send the ecm to be reprogrammed to work with the truck(about $600), different headers, motor and trans mount adapters, and a lot of patience.
