rear end gear and unit?

5 Attachment(s)
hey guys, i have a 70 c10 2wd that was originally 3 on tree with inline 6. before i pulled the rearend cover, i had assumed that the ring and pinion was a 410 set due to the inline 6. when i pulled the cover and let all the muddy looking gear oil out, i noticed on the ring gear it was stamped 3817778 11-41 gm. i figured that stood for teeth count on the set, but i counted anyways. infact, i counted 11-41 teeth on the set which was 3.73 instead of the 4 range. can anyone tell me by looking if this carrier is a posi, limited slip, etc. i honestly dont know what im looking at when it comes to these. thanks for any help guys. also, i noticed that the actual ring gear had what looked like white paint marker on it which read "E403" any ideas?

Kidd -7 I am not sure anyone answered your question. The springs are a dead giveaway that this is a limited slip (posi) rear. The springs push on two plates that put pressure on the axle sidegears. This in turn loads the clutch packs that are behind the axle sidegears. When the axles begin to turn at different speeds the clutch packs heat up, expand and wedge between the carrier and the axle sidegears. This causes the axles to want to turn with the carrier, not independently. Therefore you end up with power to both wheels at the same time. Hope that helped.
