60-63 Windshield Seal Quality-revisited
 

Does anyone have recent input on a brand or supplier for a quality/functional windshield gasket for a 60-63 with stainless trim?

This was discussed at length in a post last July. The feedback at that time seemed to indicate every brand on the market was having problems with their windshield gaskets. Brothers, Classicparts, Counterpart, LMC, Precision, and Steele were all mentioned, and there wasn't any supplier or brand singled out as the solution to the problem.

I’m about to get started on polishing the stainless trim and I’d like to get the gasket on order if I could figure out where to buy one. Thanks for any feedback.

I don't know what the negative feedback was regarding Steele gaskets but I used their Made in the USA stuff in my '66 with excellent results.

I tried a brothers but could not get it to work,so i got a steel gasket and it worked this was on a 1962 with trim

I haven't used mine yet, but ordered it from Steele. Their vulcanized gaskets looked to be pretty good. I heard the best stuff about them... was the most expensive also, so I hope it works fine.

Steele Rubber's gasket is actually made by Precision and I had to wait 4 months for mine to finally arrive. I took it to 2 separate shops, one of which is well known for doing older cars and trucks, and neither could get the trim in. I'm still not completely convinced that the seal is bad and not the fact that it is just extremely difficult.

Thanks for the input guys. Looks like I'll be going direct to Steele, since I've seen some suppliers on Ebay advertising Precision Brand, and customers complaining they received a Counterpart seal instead.

I am putting a new windshield in my 62 GMC. My window company got the windshield and a Precision gasket for a trim type. the gasket is not fitting well at all to the pinch weld, leaving big gaps. Any ideas?

In my experience if the installation doesn’t go well, there wasn’t enough time put in to getting the gasket installed on the glass ahead of time. It needs to be stretched and taped in place until it will stay on the glass before the trim is inserted in the slot.

The 2nd issue is trying to install the glass like a conventional rubber gasket windshield. Normally the bottom of the glass/gasket is set on the lower pinch weld and the seal worked over the lip. This continues until the top center is pulled in last. This technique won’t work on a 60-63 windshield because the upper part of the glass will hit the roof lip above the glass, preventing it from reaching the glass opening. What worked for me was setting the assembled windshield (glass/gasket/trim) flat against the windshield cavity, and working the rubber lip over the pinch weld in whatever piece will reach. I started working back and forth between the upper and lower sections, with a helper applying gentle pressure on the outside. As more of the gasket cleared the lip, the windshield literally slipped straight back into the cavity allowing the rest of the gasket to easily be pulled over the pinch weld.

I haven't done a windshield gasket yet but for the back window and both doors I recommend http://www.steelerubber.com/ I had real good luck with both I had the worst time with the door seals I bought from LMC. They were make across the pacific somewhere I guess they were just to thick cause I could never get them adjusted or fit right I don't think you would regret using them..Vernski:metal:

Precision brand is what I've heard nothing but good things about. You can get them from American Classic too but you have to specifically ask that they ship you Precision brand gaskets or you'll get whatever they pull from the parts bin.

Precision gasket is what I have, I am going to have it re-installed to Markeb01's spec next week. Hopefully I will get a better result.
