Any other cars / trucks I can pull a driveshaft from?
I'm swapping a SWB frame under my '65 C10 LWB and cutting the bed. Already have the frame.
I still have the original 2 piece driveshaft from the '65 (230/3 speed/ LWB) but I'd rather use a one piece driveshaft. The SWB frame didn't have a driveshaft. I'll be using the 230 engine and a short shaft Turbo 350. Anyone know of a drop in driveshaft I can look for at the junkyard? Anyone have one laying around? Thanks. |

My 63 has a one piece driveshaft. Maybe check some of the other early c-10's

Re: Any other cars / trucks I can pull a driveshaft from?
I don’t have details on a specific shaft that will fit, but back when I was building V8 powered 54 Chevy sedans, and my 46 Ford sedan I just went to the wrecking yard and measured the length of everything in the yard until I found one that matched my required dimensions. I never had a new one fabricated, I always managed to find a used one that slid right in place.
Most GM and Ford cars and trucks (at least up through the 1970’s) used one of two sizes of u-joints. There was the large one and the small one. This big one had internal clips and the small one had clips on the ends of the caps. If the u-joint was incorrect I purchased a combination joint at the local parts store to resolve the problem. I just had to be careful to check the shaft had not been bent by a careless fork lift operator moving the cars around. |

I don't have the exact answer either, but I would suggest the same as markeb01. You'll just have to do some searching. If you don't find one the exact length you need, get one that is too long. It really is not expensive to have a driveshaft shortened. If you have to have one re-tubed, (lengthened) that's when things get expensive.

Yeah I've done the junkyard route before, just wondering if someone had plowed this road before and knew specific interchange.
Thanks. |
